I feel like there’s an app for everything these days, which is great! Below are some of my favorite FREE apps that I use frequently myself or with clients.
- Nike+ Training Club
This is one of my favorite fitness apps! It has the ability incorporate strength, flexibility, and cardio into a customized training plan that works with whatever equipment you have available. The app is super easy to navigate and the video demonstrations are high quality and to the point. You can even play your own music from your phone while you go through the workouts. A+ app
2. HIIT Interval Training Timer
Ask any of my clients and they will tell you that they are “whistle trained”. This app allows you to set your own interval times, rest times, and total sets. You can adjust the sounds of the whistle to a basketball buzzer and other noises (but I personally love the whistle). I like that the intervals give you a 3-2-1- countdown, which prepared you for the next round. I literally use this everyday.
3. Charlie Mike by Ashley Horner- Bodybuilding.com
While I haven’t finished the whole program I will use the workouts when I get stuck in a rut and can’t decide on what to do. I like that while the plan has a lot of Olympic lifts, it offers alternative moves if you don’t feel comfortable or don’t have the equipment to perform the exercise. It has a nutrition program but it is based off of a 145 woman. The nutrition information is still solid and the grocery list is great for anyone.
4. Lose It
Lose it is a food tracking app that does a great job of providing a lot of info and amazing graphics. If I have clients that are new to tracking their food I recommend this app because of all the free features it offers. Personally, something I love about the app is the ability to see if they get the recommended servings from all food groups in each day. If you log into your account online you can see some pretty cool charts of your food history and trends in your carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake.
5. Calorie Counter By FatSecret
I use this food tracking app myself. I like the ease of it and the display of all the numbers (calories, protein, fat, and carbohydrates) for each meal and food item. This one is great if your into tracking macros. I also use a professional account so I can see all of my clients weekly logs without logging in to their personal accounts. This app has a simple layout and and not too many bells and whistles. At the bottom of the app, I can easily see my daily totals and sodium levels with a chart of the percentages of my macros.
Check these apps out and let me know what you think! I would love to hear what your favorite apps are.
